Week 5 🌻Two words can tilt your day at every transition: What if…?

This week’s prompt
Use “What if?” segment intentions to prime key moments before they happen.
Example: “What if my new client meeting goes really well and we agree clear next steps?”

This week’s move (60–120 seconds)
1️⃣ Look at today’s calendar and spot 3 transitions (before a meeting, starting deep work, school run → back to work, gym, evening).
2️⃣ For each, write one line:
“What if [positive, specific outcome]?”
Optional add-on: “If this segment starts, then I’ll [tiny behaviour: 1 breath / first question / open the doc].”
3️⃣ Put the lines where you’ll see them (notes app/desk) and read each one just before the segment begins.

Why it works (science, no fluff)

  • A concrete “What if…?” sets expectation, rehearsing a mini-story in your Default Mode Network (DMN) and lowering friction.
  • It tunes your Reticular Activating System (RAS)—your attention filter—to notice cues that make that outcome more likely (the person to ask, the opening question, the next step).
  • Pairing it with a tiny “if-then” action creates a reliable start cue.

Make it yours (keep it tiny)

  • Client call: “What if this call feels collaborative and we leave with one clear next step?” → If the call starts, I ask one clarifying question first.
  • Deep work: “What if the first 10 minutes get me into flow?” → If the timer starts, I type 3 bullet points.
  • Evening: “What if home time feels unhurried and warm?” → If I walk in, I pause for one breath before talking.

Reflect (evening)
Which “What if…?” helped today? Write one line: “The ‘What if’ that shifted my day was…” Keep it for next time that segment comes around.
