Returning after a break can feel harder than expected.
Not because you are behind.
Because starting again has friction. 🧠
I took last Monday off for the UK Bank Holiday.
For many people, it was also half term, which means this week may feel like a return to routine after a slightly different rhythm.
And that return can feel surprisingly difficult.
The unopened laptop.
The notebook you have to find.
The task you need to remember.
The first sentence you have not written yet.
We often think getting going depends on willpower.
But behaviour is shaped by environment too. 🌱
When the next step is visible, ready, and easy to begin, the brain has less to negotiate with.
This photo is my small example.
💻 Laptop open.
📓 Notebook ready.
🖊️ Pen waiting.
☕ Tea nearby.
🌻 Sunflowers adding a little brightness.
Nothing dramatic.
But enough to say to my brain:
this is where we begin.
Your brain is always listening. 🧠
Not only to what you say.
But to what your environment is quietly asking of you.
A closed notebook says, “Start from scratch.”
An open page says, “Continue here.”
A task buried in an email says, “Find me first.”
A pinned link says, “Begin.”
A vague intention says, “I’ll try.”
A prepared first step says, “This is where we start.” ✨
This week’s tiny Move:
➡️ Remove one step before you begin.
Open the document.
Lay out the notebook.
Pin the link.
Put the shoes by the door.
Write the first sentence before you need it.
Keep it small.
The aim is not to force yourself back into full speed.
It is to make the next right step easier to notice.
Because sometimes progress begins before the task begins.
