Week Three: Mindset Settings — Staying Power Series PATIENCE

Most people don’t quit because they “can’t do it.”
They quit because they can’t see it working yet.

Patience isn’t passive.
It’s active consistency—especially when progress feels quiet

Angela Duckworth’s work on grit is basically this:
the people who go further aren’t always the most talented…
they’re often the most consistent.

And consistency takes patience.

The Move (60–120 seconds)

Pick one tiny “stay-the-course” action you can repeat daily this week:

  • Returning to study? 10 minutes reading + 5 minutes notes.
  • Mid-career / leadership goals? One courageous email, one skill rep, one 10-minute planning block.

Then write this sentence at the top of today’s page:

“I don’t need fast results. I need steady reps.”

Why it works (your brain is always listening)

When you name the setting—Patience—you’re priming your attention to notice proof that the work is building (RAS).
And when you rehearse the story—steady reps add up—you strengthen follow-through (DMN).

Small, repeatable actions also reduce friction: fewer decisions, less negotiating, more momentum.

Make it yours

Choose a tiny patience cue for this week:

  • a sticky note: “Stay.”
  • a calendar block called: “One small rep.”
  • a daily tick ✅ (proof you’re the kind of person who keeps going)

If you’re feeling behind right now, try this reframe:
You’re not behind. You’re in the middle. And the middle requires patience.

What’s one small “steady rep” you can commit to for 7 days—so your brain starts expecting progress again?
