One of the most powerful ideas I took from the Be Extraordinary programme by Mindvalley, facilitated by Vishen Lakhiani, is the concept of the Reverse Gap.
Instead of fixating on the distance between where you are now and where you want to be (the “forward gap”), the Reverse Gap invites you to pause. To look back. To really see how far you have already come.
Because your brain is always listening.
When we focus only on what is missing, our mind absorbs that story. It hears: “Not enough yet.”
When we take time to notice our progress, our achievements—even small ones—it hears: “I am growing. I am capable. I have done extraordinary things.”
The photo I am sharing today is with my friend Yvonne, who lives in my village in Spain.
This idea reminds me so much of our conversations together—where looking back over her extraordinary life offers lessons, pride, and a sense of meaning that shapes the present.
For me, the Reverse Gap is a practice of self-leadership.
Of training your mind to recognise progress.
Of building confidence, resilience, and gratitude for the road travelled.
✨ What would it mean for you or your team to intentionally look back this week?
✨ What lessons and pride could you uncover by celebrating the journey so far?
I would love to hear:
💬 How do you practice looking back?
💬 What has your Reverse Gap shown you lately?
