Busy doesn’t defeat you because you’re not capable.
Busy defeats you because it steals your starting moment.
This photo of Oscar and Pedro reminded me of something this week.
They didn’t debate whether to rest (you can see the photo here).
They found the blanket… and just became the kind of cats who nap there. 🐾
That’s a pretty good lesson for life too.
When your days are full, motivation is unreliable.
So instead of “I’ll try to…”, use a simple brain-friendly plan:
If X happens, then I will do Y.
James Clear (Atomic Habits) makes a similar point: your environment is often the invisible hand shaping your habits.
So we don’t only set intentions — we design cues.
Your 60–120 second Move (do this today)
- Pick one tiny action that would genuinely help this week (60 seconds is enough).
- Choose a cue you can’t miss.
- Write one If–Then sentence.
- Make the environment support it (your “blanket”).
Examples:
- If I open my laptop, then I do 60 seconds on my one priority before email.
- If I finish a meeting, then I write the next step in one sentence.
- If I make tea/coffee, then I send the message I’ve been avoiding.
Environment helpers:
- sticky note on the keyboard: “60 seconds first”
- open the document and leave it ready
- notebook on the chair / pen on top
- calendar reminder that matches the cue moment
If you’d like the full 8-week series, it’s on my Growth Hub (Courses).
Quick question: What’s one If–Then you could set today that would make tomorrow easier?
All the best
Julie
